Frequently asked questions
Can you swim year-round?
No, unlike tropical destinations. The sea drops to 14-15° in winter, far too cold for swimming. It becomes pleasant from June and stays comfortable until late September, peaking around 26° in August.
When is the best time to avoid the crowds?
Mid-May to late June, or early September to mid-October: the climate is already (or still) very pleasant, prices drop noticeably, and the island is far less crowded than at the height of summer, including at Navagio beach.
When can you see the loggerhead turtles?
Zante's Laganas Bay hosts one of the Mediterranean's largest loggerhead turtle nesting sites. Females come ashore to lay eggs from late May to August, and hatchlings emerge from July to October. The National Marine Park enforces strict rules (no lights, noise or beach furniture near nests at night) — go with a licensed guide and keep a respectful distance.
