Is the Yucatán hit by hurricanes often?
The peninsula is somewhat more sheltered than the Caribbean islands further east, but it isn't immune. Risk peaks August to October. Check the forecast in the weeks before departure and consider travel insurance for a trip in that window.
Is Cancún overcrowded during spring break?
Mid-February through April draws a younger, nightlife-driven crowd to the Cancún hotel zone especially in March. Tulum and Mérida stay noticeably calmer if you'd rather avoid it.
Best month balancing weather, crowds and price?
Late April to early May (still mostly dry, after spring break) or November (after hurricane season, before the Christmas rush) offer the best trade-off.
