Can you swim year-round?
Yes, the lagoon stays pleasant all year: the sea ranges from 23° in the southern winter (July-August) to 28-29° in the southern summer (January-February). Even in the coolest months, swimming stays comfortable.
Should cyclones really be a concern?
The risk mainly exists between January and March, peaking in February. Direct impacts remain rare over a short stay, but it is worth keeping some flexibility and suitable travel insurance during this period.
Which coast should you favour depending on the season?
In the southern winter (May to October), trade winds blow harder in the east: the west coast and the north (Grand Baie, Flic-en-Flac, Tamarin) are more sheltered and sunny. In the southern summer, the whole island enjoys warm, calm seas.
